Mercy – that’s when one is not able to see evil, when one forgives everyone, when one justifies all, when one shows compassion towards all. And he gives money to anyone if he can.
And the monk …he has no money, because he has no ownership.
He gives alms when he does not offend anyone, when he forgives all, he justifies all, he laments all and he regards everyone to be bigger than himself.
This is why he doesn’t know to be angry and to condemn anybody. All his joy, his entire essence of the spiritual life is – love for people, love for God.
We, in turn, act just the opposite. And that is proof that we don’t live spiritually.
If we notice the bad (and we retell it), then that’s proof that we do not live spiritually, that we don’t pray, that we don’t love, that in us there is no love.
The spiritual and merciful person has a great need to bestow, to protect, to forgive, to justify and to see nothing bad with his nearest.
